Lew Wallace, Musician.
Ambassador | Artist | Author | General | Inventor | Musician
Lew Wallace was not a professional musician, but he liked to play the violin. One of the reasons he built his study was so he could play his violin whenever he wanted to, even at midnight!
Being able to play a musical instrument or sing was very important in the 1800s. Imagine your life without video games, television, radio, or movie theaters. What would you do for fun? In Lew Wallaces lifetime, playing music for family and friends was a fun way to spend the evening.
Susan Wallace, Lew Wallaces wife, played the guitar. Together, they could entertain visitors for many hours.
Lew Wallace also learned how to make his own violins! This is a very hard thing to do.
